AYSF Accreditation according to Teachers Level

2. AYSF Accreditation according to Teachers Level:

2.1 Accreditation Levels by AYSF:

The accreditation process for traditional yoga teachers by the Asian Yogasana Sports Federation (AYSF) typically involves different levels of certification to recognize and empower different levels of yoga teachers and expertise, principles for accreditation are:

Type of certification

Lineages and traditions (verifiable)

Years of experience since certification

Teaching period (verifiable)

For yoga traditions and known gurus or masters yoga schools and yoga renowned figures, they traditionally don’t follow certification and qualification systems of private institutes to share their knowledge such as B.K.S Iyengar or Sri Pattabhi Jois and others who can classify as renowned gurus who served yoga and were honored on national or continental or international levels, thus the accreditation for lineage or the school comes from the national, continental and international recognition of the guru , the source of the knowledge and curriculum.

Yoga schools or institutions that are well-known traditional centers established by recognized Yoga Gurus will be acknowledged by the Asian Yogasana Sports Federation (AYSF) and will not need to obtain separate accreditation from the AYSF. Consequently, any yoga teacher who has graduated from these recognized schools will be eligible for accreditation, provided they meet the necessary certification and other requirements.

This recognition ensures that traditional lineages and institutions continue to be respected, while simplifying the accreditation process for teachers emerging from these esteemed centers.

Below is a general outline of how these levels are structured:

1. Foundation Level (Level 1)

This is the entry-level accreditation for yoga teachers who are new to the teaching profession but have completed an appropriate level of yoga teacher training 200 or 300 hrs from an accredited school or a traditional yoga school or a yoga lineage of a known guru as follows:

Teaching level: Teachers at this level are qualified to teach beginner-level yoga classes.

Note: most of the courses that are called 300 hours YTT are actually given during one month period and its 100 extra hours of study, this is still within level one accreditation system and cannot be called a yoga master.

  • 300 hour of yoga therapy can’t be counted as Master Yoga or Advanced Yoga Level as it considered a yoga specialty rather than a Master in Yoga Traditions

2.2 Continuous Education in Yoga:

Across all levels, accredited teachers are encouraged (or required) to engage in ongoing continued education to maintain their accreditation. This may include attending workshops, training programs, learn other yoga styles to deepen their understanding, teaching and practice, and staying updated with the latest developments in the field of yoga.

The AYSF’s accreditation levels are designed to ensure that traditional yoga teachers maintain a high standard of teaching, rooted in authentic practices while evolving with ongoing professional development. Each level represents a milestone in a teacher’s journey, recognising their growing expertise and commitment to the art and science of yoga.

Continuous education will involve completing 100+ hours of advanced certification, publishing a research paper, or a book, presenting at international conferences, or similar activities each year.
